Recording Artist & hip hop veteran
Heavy D Born Dwight Meyers was a Mount Vernon NY native with a penchant for finding & developing talent -- actually, he helped bring Jodeci and Mary J . Blige to his then label
Andre Harrel's Uptown Records. which he signed with in 1985. and then became President & CEO of in the mid 90's (the first Rap Artist to rise to the position at a major label Imprint)
In the past 26 years, he has released 9 albums, 7 on the Uptown imprint.. he has sold millions of records both with his Group Heavy D & the Boyz, as a solo artist and as a featured artist on such household names as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, & Soul 4 Real
Heavy D is also known as the man who discovered a young Sean "Puffy" Combs and mentored him into the entertainment powerhouse he is today.
In recent years Heavy D took his acting more serious, with recurring roles starting in the 90's on programs like, Queen Latifah's hit show "Living Single" & "Roc"
Tracey Morgans short lived show "The Tracy Morgan Show"
Even Movie roles in "Life" "Step Up" & most recently "Tower Heist"
we will miss the chance run-ins with Hev (as he was affectionately known)
and getting that good piece of advice, that warm smile or those words of encouragement..
you will be missed Hev
