R.I.P - SHAKIR STEWART

R.I.P
SHAKIR STEWART

So I was on twitter, just Tweetin' away
and i got a Tweet about MY DUDE Shakir Stewart having passed..

Shakir was in my opinion one of the only REAL publishing guys in the biz..the first day I met him..he darted away from me (after our meeting) into the street to run after a car service (that had a well known R&B star in it) ..in order to place a record...(and the record got placed because he put the song in the artist's hand)

for years he was always a good friend and one of MY go-to's for ideas and advice,
he always had a sense of what was next, and what was best for his acts...

He will be sorely missed..

Shakir was recently promoted to Executive Vice President of Def Jam Records

He died of an apparent suicide today. Details are sketchy, but WVEE DJ Greg Street, is currently dedicating his evening show to my Friend Shakir.

Shakir was a graduate of Morehouse College, & has been the go-to-guy for finding talent since his days at LaFace Records & L.A. Reids Hitco Publishing company from 2000 to 2004, when he brought R&B siren Ciara to the company. He also played an integral role in bringing Beyonce to the firm.

The urban music industry is shocked by the news and my sincere condolences go out to His family
